The provincial waterways of Matara.
As the third longest river in Sri Lanka, the Nilwala River is a haven for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Along its banks, exotic spices such as cardamom and cinnamon flourish amidst the teeming fauna that have made the riverside their home. While the crocodile is a notable resident that lurks beneath the waters, the Nilwala River is also a popular bird watching site in Sri Lanka. A number of endemic birds including the Red-faced Malkoha and Green-billed Coucal soar above the provincial waterways, while mid-August plays host to several migratory flocks which arrive from Northern India and Western Europe.
Although the Nilwala River runs through the city of Matara and out to the Indian Ocean, your exclusive boat will be arranged a short 15-minute drive away from Amaloh by Jetwing. Your river adventure lasts for a few hours in the early hours of the morning or afternoon, and will be accompanied by one of our knowledgeable experts as an added benefit.
