Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil
A famed symbol of Hinduism in the ancient capital of Jaffna
Standing proudly in the ancient capital of the Jaffna Kingdom, the grand and golden Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil has long been a symbol of the region to individuals of all faiths. Adorned with a rich history that contributes significantly to the unique northern heritage of our island, the kovil also hosts the annual Nallur festival during the month of August ever year. Taking place over 25 days, the festival is the longest in Sri Lanka, and is a colourful month-long display of vibrant processions, dancing, drumming, and more.
Located just outside the central hub where Jetwing Jaffna resides, the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil can be easily reached in a quick 10-minute drive, or even a slightly longer bicycle ride. The journey through suburban Jaffna is a fascinating showcase of northern residences, while your visit to the kovil can begin or end with a sweet treat from the celebrated Rio Ice Cream Parlour just a short walk away.
