Buses and trains operate a frequent public transport service to Jaffna – and for those who want to travel with ease and convenience, a short flight from Colombo will get you there in a little over an hour.
Regaining its fame as a popular travel destination, Jaffna is now easily reached by road and rail. While the regular train journey takes between 8 to 10 hours, the air conditioned express train which leaves Colombo in the early hours of the morning reaches Jaffna in about 6 1/2 hours. The railway station is about 700 meters away from Jetwing Jaffna. Connecting Jaffna with Kandy and the South, the A9 highway which is the longest highway in Sri Lanka, is the main route to the Northern province. The bus journey from Colombo takes about 9 hours, and Jaffna which is well served by many luxury bus services, has a central bus station which is a short distance away from the hotel. The town offers many transport options – hired vans, bicycles, mopeds and tuk-tuks which are the cheapest and quickest way to get around.
