The beaches and water of the Negombo and surrounding are said to be teeming with a wide variety of flora and fauna. The lagoons calm waters make it an ideal diving spot to observe the unique and vibrant sea life.

A drive down south from Negombo reveals some excellent dive spots near the former port city of Galle. Here visitors can explore ancient wrecks from the Portugese and Dutch as well as British World War 2 ships including the HMS Hermes, the first aircraft carrier ever constructed.
