Nuwara Eliya seems to be a lifetime away from the heat and humidity of the low-country. The Central Hills are 1884 meters above sea level and from Colombo it is a scenic five hour drive through winding roads and breathtaking landscape.
Nuwara Eliya or the ‘city of light’ is located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka about 170km away from the Bandaranaike International Airport. Renowned for its picturesque landscape of lakes, tall mountain ranges and sprawling tea plantations it was nicknamed ‘Little England’ by the English planters who settled there. The town is also a quaint reminder of a bygone era as its official buildings are built in the style of 19th and early 20th century English architecture.
