Hiking in Nuwara Eliya
Being a hill country area, Nuwara Eliya provides an ideal location to travellers in Sri Lanka who wish to indulge in hiking. Its mountainous landscape presents many locations to challenge potential hikers.

Pidurutalagala is the highest mountain peak in Sri Lanka is located just 10 KM’s north of Nuwara Eliya town. The view from this mountain is extremely scenic and hikers can ascend it whilst enjoying a cool and refreshing breeze. Whilst climbing this mountain, visitors will be privy to sights such as various plants, animals and of course the spectacular views that just get more impressive with every step upward. However it should be noted that hikers will not be allowed to ascend all the way to the summit as access is restricted to 7000 metres.

Horton Plains is another excellent hiking venue that presents the chance to traverse a vast plain of largely open land. This natural park is home to various animals such as leopards, deer, endemic and other birds in addition to various forms of plant life. Traversing through this impressive park also allows a visit to an impressive precipice known as Worlds End. From here the view is quite impressive and on clear days visitors can see all the way to the ground.

Whilst exploring the many wonders of Nuwara Eliya, those interested in hiking will find ample opportunity to stretch their legs and get up close and personal with the landscape. Guests staying at Jetwing Warwick Gardens will receive helpful assistance and advice on how best to go about hiking in Nuwara Eliya.
