Whilst the overall climate of our island is certainly tropical being so near to the Equator with no distinct seasons, the lay of the land naturally dictates distinct variations. Embracing both the dry and the wet zones the central massif of the island rears up to great heights and the weather, you will discover, is markedly colder in the high mountains of Nuwara Eliya. The weather forecast of this hill capital is warm but bracing with the air being fresh and crisp.
At over 6000 ft above sea level the temperatures here vary between 23° C and even lower during the day and dropping down to around 10° C or at times considerably less at nightfall. Towards the latter part of the year, the weather turns colder with light ground frosts often occurring at night.
Whilst Nuwara Eliya still remains very much a ‘little England’ in terms of weather as well – abundant rains being a prevalent factor, the blazing hot sun that leaps out from behind the ever shifting clouds to warms up your days never fail to remind you that you are well and truly in the tropics to let you enjoy the best of rain and shine as well.
