Your Gateway To The Adventurous Southern Province

From Jie Jie Beach by Jetwing, there is no shortage of things to do in Panadura and beyond. Our convenient location at the edge of Sri Lanka’s popular southern coastline lends itself to a wealth of much sought-after activities, along with the premise of visiting less frequented destinations in our immediate regions.

For starters, the nearby town of Kalutara is characterised by the magnificent Kalutara Bodhiya, which greets all those who enter the area. The pristine white dagoba that towers over the Galle Road is known to be the first hollow dagoba in the world, and one of thirty-two locations where a sapling of the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi was planted. The historical significance of Kalutara extends to its inner regions, where the prehistoric Pahiyangala Caves are located. These massive rock formations are not only said to be the largest of their kind in Asia, but also the oldest human settlement on the continent. Centuries ahead, the stately Richmond Castle is also found in this region, and remains a masterpiece of Edwardian architecture with Indian influences, and a treasure trove of fascinating backstories.

Further south in Bentota, the world-famous Bawa Trail is a favourite among many travellers who visit the area. Once again, venturing into the provincial backlands of the region, the trail includes two beautiful landmarks credited to a single family name. Firstly, Brief Gardens by Bevis Bawa is a meticulously landscaped world that is more a work of art than a patch of lush vegetation, and is a wonderful place to explore a blend of artistic expressions and natural sights. While secondly, Lunuganga Estate rests on the banks of the Dedduwa Lake as the picturesque country home of Geoffrey Bawa – Sri Lanka’s most renowned architect, and the father of tropical modernism.

Should you wish to remain closer to home however, the expansive stretch of beach at our home of Sri Lankan hospitality is also ideal for a number of activities including volleyball and surfing, while the surrounding villages can also be explored on foot or by bicycle.
