The luxurious hotel of Tangalla Bay is right at the Southern tip of the island and with 240km of road to cross from the Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake, travel to Tangalle in itself can be an exciting journey.
The drive, whether by coach or car may well be long at nearly 6-7 hours, but the scenery along the way will certainly make time fly unnoticed, for a true glimpse of life in Sri Lanka is yours to catch sight of. The bustling capital of Colombo, the resort towns on the West coast, the fishing villages, the wayside sellers of everything from fruit to baskets to neon hued toys; and the sea will follow beside you all the way down too.
If you feel truly adventurous take the train from Colombo to Matara on the fondly named (‘podi menike’ or ‘Ruhunu Kumari’) an eventful ride that will take around 4 hours. The option of flying there by seaplane will also be yours in the near future.
