Nuwara Eliya, with its mist clad mountains and breath taking landscapes, is one of Sri Lanka's most popular holiday destinations. Located at 6000 ft above sea level, its cool, highland climate lends itself to producing some of the world's finest teas.
The favourite hill country retreat of the British colonialists; Nuwara Eliya is also known as “Little England”. Its high altitude gives it a much cooler climate than the lowlands, and the average temperature of 16◦ C drops even further during the winter months. In the daytime the weather gets warmer as the sun climbs higher, but generally by afternoon the mist comes down and the nights can be quite chilly. The month of April which is the season of flowers, is considered the best time of the year to visit Nuwara Eliya as the weather is good, and the town comes alive with a host of outdoor activities for the whole family.
