Urban Sustainability in our Capital City

From the time this land hosted our founder’s home, our family has been committed to caring for the environment around us. Today, Jetwing Colombo Seven embodies this legacy through a number of sustainable initiatives in several of our hotel operations, setting an example of responsible tourism both in our cosmopolitan capital, and across our many homes of Sri Lankan hospitality found within our tropical isle.

Creating a Butterfly Effect

Jetwing Hotels has been a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka, guided for over five decades by the philosophy of our founder, the late Herbert Cooray. With the importance of sustainability being brought to the fore in recent times, the need for conscious decisions to be made for the future of the planet and its people is greater than ever. We believe that making changes today, however small, can lead to a better future.

By sharing our journey of sustainability, what we have learnt, and what we hope to achieve, we aim to inspire change and create a butterfly effect.

At Jetwing Hotels, we’re committed to minimizing our environmental footprint and fostering positive social impacts. We welcome your feedback on our sustainability efforts, including suggestions for how we improve. Please share your thoughts and ideas with us at sustainability@jetwinghotels.com

Energy and Carbon

Energy and Carbon

In addition to a 25 kW rooftop solar photovoltaic system that supplements the supply of grid electricity throughout the day, Jetwing Colombo Seven also holds the honour of installing the first water-to-water heat pump system in Sri Lanka. The innovative system uses ambient heat generated from a variety of heat-emitting elements including body heat and electronic equipment within each room, to generate the entire hot water requirement for the hotel.

Additionally, all glass windows used throughout Jetwing Colombo Seven are double-glazed – providing a significant degree of sound isolation in the heart of the city, as well as minimising the heat gain within all air-conditioned spaces. This minimal heat gain is also reinforced with the use of decorative clay tiles, a natural cooling material that covers most of the building façade. A point to note is that all air-conditioning at Jetwing Colombo Seven is operated through a state-of-the-art VSD (Variable Speed Drive) driven centrifugal chiller, which provides optimum cooling in every room.

Sourcing and Production

Sourcing and Production

In an effort to minimise plastic waste, Jetwing Colombo Seven offers only reusable glass water bottles at our property – every one of which has been sourced from the bottling plant operated by our family at Jetwing Blue.
