Sustainable Living At Our Wellness Retreat
Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions joins our many homes of Sri Lankan hospitality across the island with a number of sustainable initiatives that staying true to our promise of a holistic wellness experience. We ensure that responsible practices are implemented throughout hotel operations in order to focus on a healthy mind, body, and soul, while simultaneously preserving and harnessing the potential of our surrounding environment as a sustainable home.
Energy and Carbon
The hot water requirement of Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions is generated entirely through renewable energy. Using a combination of an individual solar hot water system for pavilions, and a central solar hot water system for the rooms, the heated water is stored within a 3000-liter calorifier for nighttime use, while an energy-efficient heat pump is also available as a back-up system. The open architectural design of the pavilions, yoga hall, and library also help reduce the requirement for artificial illumination and ventilation on the property.
Water and Waste
All wastewater generated at Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions is biologically treated onsite at our effluent treatment plant, and is also used for garden irrigation. To complement these practices, all sweepings and other tree clippings from our gardens are composted in a traditional above ground compost pile, where the product compost is then used as a nutrient-rich soil enhancer.
Sourcing and Production
Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions is the first hotel in Sri Lanka to be certified by both Veggie Hotels and the Sri Lanka Standards Institute for our purely vegan and vegetarian menu. In addition to multiple health benefits, these non-meat diets are also considered to be better for the environment with a lower ecological footprint. Another point to note is that all glass water bottles used within the hotel are sourced from the bottling plant hosted by our family at the nearby Jetwing Blue.
