Nestled in the heart of Jaffna, Jetwing Jaffna is dedicated to promoting sustainable travel in the island’s northern peninsular. From renewable energy solutions to comprehensive recycling programmes, Jetwing Jaffna takes pride in its efforts toward environmental stewardship while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Jetwing Hotels has been a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka, guided for over five decades by the philosophy of our founder, the late Herbert Cooray. With the importance of sustainability being brought to the fore in recent times, the need for conscious decisions to be made for the future of the planet and its people is greater than ever. We believe that making changes today, however small, can lead to a better future.
By sharing our journey of sustainability, what we have learnt, and what we hope to achieve, we aim to inspire change and create a butterfly effect.
The hotel actively minimizes its environmental impact through the utilization of solar thermal system which supplies the hot water requirement of the property, during sunlit hours.
Jetwing Jaffna features an on-site effluent treatment plant, where 100% of wastewater generated through hotel operations is carefully treated with aerobic and anaerobic biological processes, prior to discharge.
Recognizing the region's aridity, Jetwing Jaffna employs a reverse osmosis plant to purify groundwater, ensuring guest consumption without further straining water-stressed resources.
Each of the 55 deluxe rooms at Jetwing Jaffna embodies a unique blend of contemporary comfort and rich cultural heritage. Adorned with traditional artwork depicting the region's fascinating history, the rooms feature furnishings bathed in rustic northern colours, resulting in a distinctly modern living space.
Our traditional welcome ritual, mirroring local customs, further enhances this sense of warmth and respect, adorning guests with a tilak or pottu upon arrival.
Youth from nearby communities are recruited through the Jetwing Youth Development Programme (JYDP), which offers free training in tourism, hospitality, language, and interpersonal skills. This equips them for careers within the industry. After the training, participants receive on-the-job training and are then given the opportunity to join our family, though there is no obligation to do so.
Despite the abundance of attractions Jaffna offers, a critical gap exists in the form of a shortage of skilled tour guides and interpreters within the Northern region. To bridge this gap and equip Jaffna's youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel as regional tour leaders. Led by seasoned professionals from the hospitality and tourism sectors, the curriculum combined theoretical knowledge with invaluable practical advice and real-world insights gleaned from their extensive industry experience.
